About Quit Number

We built Quit Number because spreadsheets are overwhelming and most financial independence calculators make things way too complicated.

The Problem

You're working hard, saving money, but you have no idea if you're on track to ever escape the 9-5 grind. Every calculator out there either:

  • Asks for 47 different inputs before showing you anything useful
  • Throws jargon like "FI ratio" and "SWR" at you
  • Requires a PhD in finance to understand the results

The Solution

Quit Number answers one question: "When can I quit?"

You get three numbers:

  • Quit Number — How much you need invested
  • Quit Score — How close you are (0-100)
  • Quit Date — When you can hand in your resignation

That's it. No fluff. No spreadsheets. Just your number.

The Math

We use the 4% rule — a widely-accepted principle that says you can safely withdraw 4% of your portfolio each year without running out of money. This means you need 25x your annual expenses invested to quit forever.

If you spend $50,000 per year, your Quit Number is $1,250,000.

Why We Built This

It started with a spreadsheet. Like most people exploring financial independence, the founder of Quit Number built a complicated Excel model with dozens of tabs, obscure formulas, and assumptions buried three layers deep. It worked, technically. But it was impossible to share with friends who asked "how do you know when you can quit?"

The idea behind Quit Number is simple: take the math that powers every FI/RE spreadsheet and strip away everything except what matters. Your number. Your score. Your date. No jargon, no 47 input fields, no PhD required.

What makes Quit Number different is focus. We don't try to be a full financial planning suite. We answer one question — "When can I quit?" — and we answer it clearly. The free calculator gives you your baseline in 60 seconds. Pro tools let you track real expenses, explore alternative paths, and watch your progress month over month.

Our Mission

We believe financial independence isn't just for the wealthy. It's for anyone willing to understand their numbers and make intentional choices. Our mission is to give every working person the clarity to know exactly where they stand — and exactly what it takes to be free.
